The St Albans Stampede is an ultra marathon running event, organised by the St Albans Striders running club, held in the beautiful Hertfordshire countryside, covering parts of Heartwood Forest and Nomansland Common.
The challenge is to cover the most amount of distance (in miles) over a designated time period of 12hrs – this can be undertaken solo, as a pair or as a team relay (up to 4, and up to 8 person options).
It’s worth noting that the category winners will be awarded on distance covered only. In other words, you don’t have to run the full 12hrs to have successfully completed the challenge. The 12hr duration is simply the maximum allowable time. All entrants, even those that run for 1-2hrs, will have successfully participated in the event and be awarded a medal for their efforts. And if participants from the 100 Marathon Club want to stop at marathon distance to record a successful completion, this is very much acceptable.
Date and timing:
Saturday September 2, 2017
The race starts at 9am and finishes at 9pm.
The Race HQ is the Sandridge Scout Hut.
The nearest postcode to the entrance driveway is AL4 9DQ and there is a brown tourist sign pointing into the car park from the main road. However, there are more parking options at Heartwood Forest and these are generally more suitable.

The route is mildly undulating, on rocky trails so trail shoes are advised.
Race numbers will be collected on the morning of the race.
Registration will open from 7.30am and close at 8.45am. The race briefing will commence at 8.45am sharp. Please arrive in sufficient time to collect your race number and timing chip.
Name = St Albans Stampede 12hr Enduro.
Distance = 4 mile loop, however this is a 12hr duration event and total distance covered vs. time is the main measure.
Course profile = Undulating hard-pack trail.
Timing = Chip timing will be used to record accurate distance covered.
Entries = There are four event options: solo, pair and 4 and 8 person relays. The winners of each category will be decided based on the total mileage covered over the 12hrs of the event. There is no minimum or maximum mileage count for the team options, meaning runners can swap in and out as required.
Aid/support = There will be one water station on the course, at the start and finish line. Refreshments including drinks, sandwiches and cakes will be available at the Race HQ as well as additional aid for runners.
Distance markers = There will be no distance markers. However the course will be marked using signage, chalk and tape.
Traffic free = Yes.
Minimum Age = 18.

Presentations = The presentation of winners’ prizes will take place at the Race HQ at 9.30pm on Saturday Sept 2, 2017. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes, male and female, for the solo event. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for the finishers of the double and the 4 person relays, and 1st prize only for the 8 person relay team. We will also award “Fastest Overall Lap” individual prize for each male and female competitor. This can come from any of the category options.
